Get a second opinion
Not every second opinion leads to surgery. You should leave knowing your options, including whether you can wait or avoid an operation.

When does a second opinion help?
- You’ve been told you need knee, hip, or shoulder surgery and want to be sure.
- You’ve been offered different answers by different doctors.
- A previous surgery hasn’t worked as you hoped.
- You’re an athlete and timing around your season matters.
- You want to know if a repair or preservation option exists.
What should I bring?
- The MRI, X-ray, or CT images themselves, not only the reports
- Notes from your other doctors
- Operative reports from any earlier surgery
- Your physical therapy notes, if you have them
- Your questions, and what you most want to get back to
How do I arrange it?
Second opinions are booked as regular visits through HSS, in New York or New Jersey. Ask about coverage when you book, and tell the office you’re seeking a second opinion. You can also call 212-606-1493.
